The Phoenix Suns are an American professional basketballteam based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Suns compete in the National BasketballAssociation (NBA), as a member of the league's Western Conference PacificDivision, and are the only team in their division not to be based inCalifornia.

9. The Suns' third trip to the playoffs in as many triescame in 1971, when they finished with a franchise-best 49 wins and againcaptured the Midwest Division title. In the first round of the playoffs,however, they were soundly beaten by the Bullets, four games to none.
10. This was followed up by another disappointing loss inthe first round of the 1972 playoffs to the New York Knicks. After missing theplayoffs for three consecutive seasons, Cotton Fitzsimmons led a resurgence ofthe Suns franchise in 1976.
